Turtle Bay Museum Gift Store
Redding, California

The Gift Store is housed in South Gateway. It is the first stop for the visitors before proceeding to the Center and the North Gateway.

A number of sustainable building strategies have been implemented including the use of many natural and recycled materials. The buildings are oriented to minimize exposure on the east and west elevations and the use of broad overhangs on the south elevations provides shading from Redding's extreme summer temperatures. The extensive use of glazing is intended to take advantage of the available sunlight and reduce dependence on artificial lighting, in keeping with the California Energy Code. Great care has been taken to reveal the nature of materials in the building. The elements of the wood structure and its connections are carefully articulated and expressed including engineered wood beams, composite joists and 'peeler-pole' columns.
