Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary Exploration Center
Santa Cruz, California

The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is the largest of 13 National Marine Sanctuaries in the United States, with 5,300 square miles of the most fascinating habitats and marine life in the world.

The newly designed Exploration Center, a two-story steel frame building (16,000 sq. ft.), houses a variety of exhibits, classrooms, administration, and storage spaces. Developed to LEED standards of sustainability, the Center is environmentally friendly and economically sound. It provides a venue for visitors to experience the Marine Sanctuary in an interactive way, and furthers the client’s mission to understand and protect the coastal ecosystem of Central California.
